THE REBIRTH OF AN ON-COURT ICON
Italian designer Andrea Pompilio revisits the Onitsuka Tiger, an iconic sneaker introduced in 1950 that is considered the first white high-top basketball shoe complete with a leather patch on the inner ankle to prevent the canvas from tearing from rubbing. The updated version is called OK Basketball RB, where OK are the initials of the brand’s founder Onitsuka Kihachiro while RB stands for ReBorn.
Featuring a new contemporary design, the kick is characterized by inlaid contrasting color combos and a nylon upper replacing the original canvas. The caterpillar sole adds a rich retro feeling.
Excelsior Milano is the exclusive partner of the Italian launch that will celebrated with an installation inspired by the iconic Shibuya crossing in Tokyo, recreating a contemporary Japanese atmosphere. The launch will take place on August 4th, at Excelsior Milano, Galleria del Corso 4, until August 18th.

Onitsuka Brand was founded as a sports shoe brand in 1949. A pioneer in the market for decades, the company developed innovative ideas and technology until 1977. In 2002, Onitsuka Tiger was revived with a more refined style as a sports fashion brand. Competition shoes were updated for everyday urban wear, becoming hot fashion items.
ABOUT ANDREA POMPILIO
Born in Pesaro in 1973, Andrea Pompilio grew up in a highly creative environment. After a fashion design master in Marangoni Institute in Milan, he started collaborating with world-leading brands such as Prada in Milan, Calvin Klein in New York and Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. In January 2010 he went solo, launching his first namesake men’s collection for F/W 2010/2011.
In 2013, Pompilio started collaborating with Japanese sportswear brand Onitsuka Tiger, introducing an iconic sneaker and designing the Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio full-range capsule collection each season.
This shoe is a remake of the basketball sneakers developed in 1950. They were the first white high-top basketball shoes and had a leather patch attached to the inner ankle part to prevent the canvas from tearing when both shoes rub together. By adopting the caterpillar-line-sole, this new shoe combines the history of Onitsuka Tiger basketball model with a rich retro feeling.
The word OK comes from Onitsuka Kihachiro’s initials. Now, OK BASKETBALL model come back as OK BASKETBALL RB, where RB stands for ReBorn: the iconic Onitsuka Tiger shoe remade by the Italian designer Andrea Pompilio who has, re- invented the OK BASKETBALL with a new contemporary design, characterized by inlaid colors in contrast on the heels and nylon upper to replace the original canvas.
