EXCLUSIVE TO EXCELSIOR: THE POLAROID EYEWEAR HERITAGE COLLECTION
ICONIC SUNGLASSES SNAP INTO FOCUS
Eighty years ago, moviegoers were treated to their first 3D film experience wearing Polaroid filters, and the response was rapturous. On the 80th anniversary of this revolutionary event, it seems only fitting that Polaroid should create a collection of sunglasses that celebrates the technology that added magical depth to our screens.
Enter the new PLD 6045/S. These sunglasses from Polaroid’s sensational Heritage collection bring a vintage style from cinema’s Golden Era bang up to date. The rectangular acetate model is unapologetically youthful and fun, and comes in three colours – white, black and red. The front is printed with the wording ‘Press’ – a quirky reminder that it was once necessary to apply pressure to attach the clip-on lens to the glasses frame. Another smart nod to yesteryear’s clip-ons is the addition of a metal mount detail on the front.
Also jostling for attention in the Heritage collection are four other timeless models from Polaroid’s rich past, all re-examined through a sophisticated modern lens.
Included in the collection are two metal-framed sunglasses – the pilot-shaped PLD 6048/S and the square PLD 6049/S. Both boast metal mount details and again, that iconoclastic ‘Press’ on the front. The PLD 6046/S and PLD 6047/S are acetate models, the former softly rounded and the later featuring a squared design. These too spell the word ‘Press’.
All five Heritage pieces are instantly recognisable (not to mention highly covetable) classics. They celebrate the genius of Polaroid’s founder Edwin Land – the man who dropped out of Harvard to pursue his scientific dreams and went on to invent glare-free vision.
All five models in the collection come with UltraSight™ lenses for perfect vision, enhanced contrast, reduced eye fatigue and 100% UV ray protection.
