THE UNSTOPPABLE BRANDS STORMING OUR CITIES
Off-duty plaid, vertical stripes, intensely frayed denim and oversized hoodies – these are the trends creating waves this summer, and never has urban clothing looked so effortlessly cool. R13 designer Chris Leba shows the kids how it’s done with his smart play on denim finished with hems that are more shredded than frayed. The occasional asymmetrical skirt layered over jeans reminds us that this is the brand with the final word on chic grunge. We also predict great things for the label’s plaid shirt for men, with its quirkily patterned chest pocket and madly frayed edges.
Belgian label Filles à Papa (translation: Daddy’s Girl) brings welcome irony to our cities with its tomboy-ish blend of streetwear and feminine detail. No wonder celebs are falling over themselves to be Instagrammed wearing numbers from this going-places fashion house. Rules continue to be broken in all the right ways at Unravel Project. We’re mad about the label’s lace-up flair jeans, and for easy luxe, nothing beats their super-soft, black leather plonge shorts. For the guys, Unravel has come up with a line of T-shirt and hoodie staples with the style dial turned to max. Meanwhile, Italian brand GCDS (God Can’t Destroy Streetwear) makes ripples this summer with its uber-colourful line-up of tees, swimsuits and daringly cropped sweatshirts. We’re loving the label’s tops for men too – some all-black, others colour-blocked black and white with those on-point vertical stripes we can’t get enough of this season.
