Friends, park your hoodies – the denim jacket is back, and never has this symbol of rebellious outerwear looked so cool or iconic. Trending right now are oversized, stone-washed versions of this all-American sartorial classic. They look great and their roomy comfort and sturdy denim structure turns every trip outdoors into a comfy pleasure. Frame Black nails the look with its Le Jacket for women, and Closed does an equally good job for men with its artfully faded worker jacket. For men, a slightly more flamboyant interpretation of the trend comes from Route Des Garden, with its denim biker jacket. Choosing between the bandana version and its camouflage brother is going to be agony for some.

Love denim but want to keep it feminine? Off White rocks the fitted denim jacket with its light blue, moderately distressed ‘tiny’ model. Equally covetable is the short-ish Cliff White jacket for women from cool Scandi brand Acne Studios. Acne has worked hard to revitalise its denim line this season, and it shows (we’re digging those strong washes and premium rivets). GCDS ramps up the glitz factor with its uber-cute cropped denim jacket with pink applique patch on the back. Ratchetting up the glamour dial even further is RTA with its boxy fit jacket resplendent with sequined sleeves. MSGM is another label that riffs on the patch theme, though this time the embellishment is crafted from crystals. Bold and playful, this oversized, bright cotton jacket is not for the fainthearted. Also deserving of special mention is the MSGM jeans jacket that’s cheekily masquerading as an anorak. But don’t be fooled by the slouchy fit, zipped front or hood – this jacket is all denim. The acid-yellow adds just the right amount of summer drama.
